Winning & Losing - On Your Own, After All...
From the Gospel according to Matthew. 27:32; 16:24 "As they went out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; this man they compelled to carry his cross. Jesus told his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." Catholic Stations of the Cross interpretation: "Jesus even experiences our struggle to receive help. He is made to experience the poverty of not being able to carry his burden alone. He enters into the experience of all who must depend upon others to survive. He is deprived of the satisfaction of carrying this burden on his own." But, what if: This is actually implying that each man must carry his own cross? It is inappropriate to ask someone else to do it, even Jesus, our angels, friends, etc. Our experience, our birth, our death our growth, is private. We are born alone and we die alone. No one can learn for us. Applying judgement as to whether these are good or bad experiences just hinders the process. Acquisition of experience supercedes avoiding suffering, illness or death. Compassion also remains a singular experience. Cyrene was founded in B.C. 632 by the Greeks. It is Libya/Africa today. From the Gospel according to Mark 10:21 "Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. One of Dr. Schulze's admonitions about natural healing: "Give away half of what you possess, it is killing you!" Practicing release is part of the journey of alternative medicine. It is inevitable that we will release everything in time, as dying so eloquently demonstrates. Practicing this skill sooner might contribute to one's getting well. Overcoming one's resistance to change might be the spiritual purpose of disease. Change is the vitality of nature. |
