The last of the ancient inhabitants of Wupatki have abandoned the site, leaving thousands of original household and sacred articles behind. It will be centuries before the first explorers find the remains, then to have fallen into ruins. In the meantime the first pothunters arrive in the form of native wildlife as scavengers and the curious. In my imagination Ive placed one of actual corrugated pots, now in the local Museum of Northern Arizona, back on the ground beneath one of the standing walls, being inspected by a treasure hunting raven. It probably happened!
