My experience with money on the internet

It is often stated that, "Having a web site is like becoming another blooming flower in a field of blooming flowers."

There is some truth to this. If you are just posting your personal scrapbook of vacation pictures on the internet for the benefit of your family and friends then it doen't matter, because you'll tell them how to find your page. In fact, there are several solutions available for this basic need.

Apple's iWeb, for example provides personal internet publishing, even blogging, in as simple a method as imaginable, drag and drop. But it lacks any eCommerce features.

In this same "mac-easy-to-use" venacular, there is Sandvox, a super, fun to use, web site designer, which is only going to get better as it matures.

However, if you saw where a guy who likes to garden, even spent some time and creativity into doing it year around using a greenhouse, and he has posted his discoveries on the internet for all to read, you might realize that his avocation has blossomed into an online enterprise, then you might want to pause and reflect on just how to do this with a plan in advance before jumping at the first solution that presents itself. As a web site designer for over ten years now, I would give you this advice.

It IS possible today to create an income, big or small, from the traffic your potential web site will attract. How far you want to take this is completely up to you. If you do your research, create a plan, then work your plan, staying devoted to your web site's theme, you'll be guaranteed some level of success. If you take this to the next level, before you begin, and do better research, some niche marketing analysis, some search engine study regarding keywords, and more, it can become a serious business.

After all, generally speaking, having a web site is the key to this doorway of activity on the internet. Creating one warrants considerable thought. It's an important decision.

This web site is a pretty good example. It started out as a venue for my personal research into prostate cancer and alternative medicine. Then it evolved into an online fine art gallery, then I added digital art tutorials, clip art, and information on northern Arizona in the form of an eZine. My passions grew, and today over 25,000 people per month visit and read through my site. In my case it grew organically and became successful. But in many ways I did it the hard way. There are services, skills, tools and talents available today that make this process smoother, easier and more successful, sooner. Did I mention cheaper.

There are many specialized and expensive software programs available today that provide the tools and sophistication to build commercial web sites. Generally, for most of us, these are far more power than we need. The have a steep learning curve and can become more of an obstacle to our essential need than desired. I have used many of these myself and the depth of detail and complication is often overwhelming. For less than the price of one of these programs I've discovered an online solution that includes hosting, email, etc.

This, then, becomes an endorsement. One I believe in. More bang for the buck than most!

Even with all of this help your web site is still another blooming flower in the field. "If you build it they will come," applies ONLY if what you build is of interest. The success of your niche depends on viewer interest. Success is your own to define. Be true to your core passion and interest.
